checked at the body man and took him my door and few other little pieces. Today I'm going to start rebuilding my wing vents.

Pulled the front left fender and cut out the rusted outer cowl. Started cleaning up and checking out the inner cowl. I hope to brace the door tomorrow and remove what I need of the emergency brake. Then replace the rocker panel. My floor is so rusty across the top of the rocker panel that I don't think it will hold the door opening in shape if I don't x-brace it before i cut out the rocker. I put up new photos.

Keep us informed on how the rebuild goes Alvin. I will have to do mine soon. Winter is a good time for this sort of stuff.

I did get one of the wing vent assemblies totally taken apart tonight. I have the window glass soaking in gas so I can get the glass out of the frame. Someone had attempted to redo them and hte glass was pushed in the frame so far it would not seal. I have all the rivets,rubber and vertical strips to re-do them. I hope by Monday to have both of the frames blasted and primed and ready to paint and reassemble. So far so good.
The little swivel pop rivet at the top was a little aggravating to grind the head off and punch it out but the little dremel tool and a very small punch did the trick with a good whack of the hammer.
However, it is good to take it easy when taking off the bottom nut that holds the glass in the frame...the one with the spring on the bottom. I took my time and got it off but it took some penetrating oil and twisting it back and forth, back and forth for a little. Be sure to watch how the washers come off with the nut as two are small and one big. You can figure it out but its nice to be "observant"!!

EDIT: Bigchevy: I ask a couple question over in the Doors Forum tha might be interesting. You never know what you might find when you take apart one of these or rather what someone might have done or tried to do.

I washed the '56 today and took it to a car show.

Dogged my wife long enough to cut out the drivers side floor. Things don't look as bad on this side. I think it is time to deal with the dual cylinder master cylinder now that I have room to work. The rest of the time I was putting garland on the front porch rails. That was after my wife mentioned that her next husband wasn't going to work on a truck all of the time.

Managed to figure out more about my brakes and that all new wheel cylinders are probably required. Everything else is looking okay, not pitted or weak.

Fixed? an issue with one of the taillights. Not sure if it is a bad ground or wiring. It is working for the time being. Put a new connector for the batter terminal. The old one was the original and pretty corroded. Hooked the heater back up with a temporary switch and in line fuse. It was 60 here today, but I will need the heater soon. Also added about a half a quart of oil.

I am also doing my daily sand and fill on my truck trying to get it ready for primer. It is a slow go but trying to make forward movement.

I removed the cab and played with placement of the new motor. I'll put more details in the Hi-Po shop thread about Cadillac 500 in a '54 GMC.

I rolled out the '50 and took her for a spin around the neighborhood. Nice day here in the 70's and sunny. Sprayed Tire Shine on all the tires when I got home.

I haven't got much done except to buy a new master cylinder (dual) for my '47. Painted the adapter bracket, bought the wood blocks for the bed, bought seatbelts and reinforcing plates. Now the weather's turning cold (snow expected this weekend)so it might be a bit uncomfortable to actually get started on some of these projects. Bought a double flaring tool and practiced making some flares on a old gas line.

Got the wheel cylinders off and as I suspected they are all trash, full of grit and not worth the trouble saving. Other than learning some about 54 year old technology and how much brake fluid attracts water, that's about it.

I feel sorry for you guys up north trying to work in the cold. It gets cold down here but you guys up there get the real cold. I think I would get pretty anise if I couldn't go to the shop and make some noise. I think I might get me a couple of propane heaters and throw together a framework of some sort and drop painter drop cloth or something down and try to warm up an area around the truck.

Jordan you might be able to soak all that and clean it up. Some of that should be savable.

Worked on the HEI conversion today. I managed to file the collar off the 250 dist. I also got my carb apart for a rebuild and got the parts soaking in cleaner because it was covered in gunked gasoline.

BIG CHEVY 3600, sorry about the delayed reply. Getting the last of the truck together. The heads on that engine are the new Edelbrock performer RPM's. Polished alum. got to run her down the street, but need to wait for my friend to double check the timing, and carb adjustments. Think I might have to learn how to drive all over again. From what I hear, my new beast will have to be driven with a whole new attitude.

Miracles do happen. I thought I had lost the cowl vent setup and would need to buy another one for 150.00 but I found it. As usual the four #10 carrage bolts that attach the system to the adjustment handle were reduced to 3 and I had to find one of those little things. I ordered some and a couple of cans of Loctite Rust Inhibitor from Fasenall. That will come in on Monday and we will finish the job.

I decided to scrap all these ideas I had about finding one piece patch panel s for the Humpback , and ordered off the shelf stuff from LMC and Jim Carter and piece it all in there .

Every now and then one needs to man up face the facts and move on !

Well, it was raining today....and we need lots of it.
So, after the bus run today I spent the day in the shop blasting the vent window assemblies and then primed them. I got a little work to do (jbweld) on one little "rust through" spot and then I can rivet the new rubber strip in and put in the vertical channel along with the new pivot rivets and rubber gasket... and glass with new tape ect. Maybe by Saturday evening I will have them back together.

Also got a package from the vendor today. Had to buy a new "remote control" for the inside door handle, and a channel guide for one side....along with some other little things.
I guess you could say Santa made an early stop!!

Today is the beginning of a BIG storm coming our way. Rain/snow tomorrow thru Sunday and temps dropping to 1 degree on Tuesday. I checked the coolant to make sure it is up to snuff, filled the gas tank and put Red Dawg in the covered walkway up to the house. The garage is full of '72 El Camino and El Camino engine rebuild. I drive my Bolt every day that it ain't snowy and icy.

painted the wing vent assemblies I blasted and primed yesterday. Also put some JBweld in the one that was a bit rusted on the inside and filled a little hole....got'em drying. Next will be the rubber stuff and putting the glass back in the frame.

i have decided to use the stock looking door panels that i have had for about a year. also ordered arm rest to go with it. drove the truck to get some KFC fell for the their dinner in a box ad. still trying to get the door latches to work properly and now that the temperature has gotten cold,16 degrees i can tell where the air is getting in. the doors have been off and i think need to be readjusted. ron

I went for a drive today since the weather was nice. Even had the floor vents open. Hit a big pothole and POOF, there was dirt and dust all over my face and blowing around the cab. The jolt from the bump must have knocked some dirt loose. I think tomorrow I am going to try to fix the door alignment for the 4th time.

Had a run in one of the vent window frames so got to sand it back off and repaint...do that Monday.
Saturday I took the front fenders and hood to the body man and checked out the panel body. He has the sides and top filled and primed but still work to do. He has the firewall coming along fine and we decided what holes we were going to leave. He is currently working on the rear doors while other stuff dries.
All I can say is he is earning his money on this one!!

Tried for way to long to get the pin that holds the emergency brake rod to the pedal arm. Sometimes it is the small things that drive you crazy. It is still in there. I will hit it with some heat in the morning. I did replace the lower rear door jam on the drivers side. I am off work until Jan. 5th so I hope to get the major body work finished and the dual master cylinder taken care of. My wife has some other plans for me that I will have to work in.

If you're talking about the cotter key, on a tough one I usually put a vice grip on the end and hit it with a hammer.

It is a 52 and where the rod that runs through the left side cab support to the back of the truck for the e-brake and is connected to the pivot for the pedal with a 1/4" or so pin. It is rusted into the mount on the rod and has so far resisted all of my efforts to get it out. It is just one of those things that you don't plan for. I will get it out but it is going to take more work than I wanted to have to do. The problem is that until it turns loose I can't get the remaining part of the e-brake out. That means that I can't move the pedal over far enough to get the rocker panel out to replace it.

I was trying to get my roof finished up, since I had to replace the entire thing. I had to make the upper windshield pillars from sheet metal because the old ones were rotted out and I had cut the ones out of the replacement roof. Only got one side done.

Not the whole thing, just the inner & outer rear cab corners, both rocker/step panels,lt & rt inner front hinge pillars,rt outer hinge pillar and the inner & outer roof. It turned into a lot bigger project than I thought, but don't they all?

I removed all the Christmas lights and decorations from the truck. It was raining all day in Virginia Beach so I couldn't take it out for a drive.

Worked on the lower portion of the drivers side cowl. I picked up the front piece for the bed. I had it bent on each side but will have to cut the top rolled portion from the old piece and weld it to the new one. I will have to butt weld the bottom angle on. I also got two 6" wide pieces the length of the bed side to repair the rusted out part along the side rail. It was $46.00 for all. If it works out I will be a happy man.
