For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 39 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 39 | I have a 36 highcab 1/2 ton.
The truck does not have any shocks, just leaf springs. I always see knee action shocks for sale on ebay or repro catalogs. Did my truck come with these originally, are they worth putting on, or can they be put on? whats the scoop on these? i would appreciate any info, thanks | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 | A good place to find out information on the really old trucks about what was stock and so forth: http://www.vccachat.org/Welcome to our Discussion Board Chevy Chatter II! ---- Also, someone might come through here and help you out. -W | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 81 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 81 | "Knee Actions" were only installed on passenger cars. They were a pod shopped device which functioned as both a spring and a shop absorber. They were first installed on the 34' year model (I think) on the master series. They were continued on the master series through the 1938 production year. The 1939 year converted to front coil springs. They were also available on Pontiacs 1934 through 1936. meansam | | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 37 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 37 | I have a 35 1\2 ton High Cab and it has single action shocks on the front only but my friends has 34 with shocks all around. I guess maybe it was an option | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 800 | Knee action shocks are different than lever action shocks. I can't speak to Knee action shocks but lever action units were used on 30's and 40's trucks. In the late 30's and early 40's trucks, single action lever shocks were standard and dual action lever shocks were an accessory. Single action units damped on the rebound after the bump was incurred. The dual would damp on both the up and down strokes. Delco /Lovejoy were the GM units. IIRC Houdaille were the lever action units used by F*rd...Apple hydraulics out of NY are rebuilders of the early shocks and can probably cite chapter and verse on them. http://www.applehydraulics.com/ | | |
