Hello everyone –

I am in the planning stages for my motor and transmission and am looking for some advice.

I have a 55 2nd and so far I have installed a No Limit IFS kit.

I am going to buy a SBC 350 and a 700R4. The original motor mounts for the 235 came out when I installed the IFS, so now I am at ground zero trying to find the starting point for the motor / tranny install

Based on what I have researched so far, it looks like I will need to go with a engine mount cross member.

Does anyone have any advice on what mounts they have used for a similar build?

Any other general advice for a beginner?

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't you weld mounts to the IFS cross member? Something like this: https://nolimit.net/prodinfo.asp?number=M%2D140

I bought Fatman's IFS and he sells a tubular mount that welds between the IFS crossmember to the boxed frame rails. He also sells another mount that welds to the cross member.

I am planning to put in an LS motor. It will require an adaptor plate to mount up to regular SBC mounts. I will set the motor down near the frame where I want it and tack in the mounts. There is a good article at classic trucks about fitting a motor into a F*rd frame, but it will apply to our cases as well, I believe. See http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/0807clt_1952_ford_f1_hemi_engine_installation/photo_01.html and associated pics.

Hope this helps a bit.

1stproject: since you have a 55 2nd series it is already set up for a V8 with the Front mounts. Depending on what engine you put in can't you put the mounts on the front of the motor.

Its only been a couple weeks since someone posted about this and how he used the front mounts. Perhaps a search would turn something up.

the front mounts aren't appropriate with an automatic, which needs it's own crossmember further back than the original bellhouseing mounts ... you'll need the aftermarket crossmember for the engine side mounts and a trans crossmember as well

Call Speedway Motors. They have a variety of motor mounts and have one that will work for you.

Thansk a lot guys!

After I read your posts and looked around, it looks like some of the engine crossmembers can't be used becasue of the IFS crossmemeber No Limit has as part of their kit.

That engine mount R-Bo referenced from No Limit is interesting, I think I will give them a call. Maybe it is designed for the crossmember I have.

The boxing plates that came with my IFS kit only go part of the way back to the cab mounts. I bet I am going to have to do like R-Bo says and lower the motor in place, and see where the mounts have to placed.

I may need to have a couple of mount types around and send back the ones that don't work.

Thanks to all for your advice!

I have a 55 2nd and I used the motor mounts from I believe it was Brothers. The one that comes complete with an under the oil pan cross member. It worked well for me,and I am using a 700R4 trans.which I also got an aftermarket mount that fits inside the frame rails.Naturally you will need regular motor mounts to hook up to the crossmember, and just remember to level your engine up.I did this by taking the carb. off and putting a level on the intake manifold. To me this setup was a much easier install than the other type mounts. My 350 has the front mount capability, but because I had installed a TCI M2 frontend I had to go with sidemounts.Good Luck with your project.
