For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 275 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2007 Posts: 275 | I purchased one of those after market grilles for the 46. The lower grille took a little work to get it to fit the hole. The upper grille won't fit at all. The lower bars stick out past the lower grille and tilts down.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it.
My only option appears to be cutting each of the grille bars from the mounting structure and refabricating it.
One would think that when you pay that much for a part, the manufacturer would put more effort into making the part fit the purpose.

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Carter. ( 1946 chev big bolt ) It was unpainted or unchromed or polished, and a good thing. On the box it said this set was made in Argentia(spl?) and the name says it all. With shipping I paid almost $400.00. It was a good thing it was unfinished. It took me over a half of day and I finally used a wire welder to fill in the gaps around the edges in places and then polished it down. I needed to do the filler, primer and high build-up and sanding thing to get it ready for paint. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 | I feel your pain. I bought one of those when I was doing my truck. Sent it back the next day and had my original one fixed. I think you will find that the upper grill will overhang the lower in all cases. My original one over hangs about a 1/4". I think thats the way they are supposed to be. Hope you get it fixed up. I've cut the inner structure out and now in the process of welding in spacers between the bars.
On one side of the upper grill, the mounting strip was at one inch from the end of the lateral bar. On the other side it was 3/8 of inch. This cause the upper grille to stick out farther on one side, and the center crease of off center.
It would have been better if the manufacturer had just sold the grilles as a kit. I could have done a better job of welding everything together and it would have fit a lot better.
