I have a 1952 3/4 ton 3600 series truck. Chevy truck parts in Kansas tell me that they don't carry brake shoes for this model, only 53 thru 54 3/4 ton. Can anyone tell me if these would be the same as my 52?
All the information i have is that after taking the brakes down i have on the front 11 inch drums with 1-1/4 bore pistons. And on the rear i have 12 inch drums with 1-3/8 bore pistons. Is this standard? The vehicle looks like it has had no modification since new.

They are different. 52 on back 3/4 tons had Huck brakes. They were completely different from later models. Is there a place in UK that can reline your shoes? sometimes thats the best way to go on some models. That is the correct size for the wheel cyls. I have a Napa catalog & that is what is listed but they don't show the shoes either. They do list the cyls & repair kits though.I believe Jim Carters parts store carries the shoes & parts for these. I put some on the rear of a 52 for someone recently & I believe thats where he got them.

I put new brakes on my '52 3600 a while ago. After exhausting all other possible sources I got the rear shoes from Jim Carter's. I had to send in my cores...I believe they reline them in house.
I upgraded my front brakes to Bendix from a '53. Much better parts availability and they are 12" as well.
Your '52 front brake parts will be the same as an early 1/2 ton
with Huck brakes except for the drums. Pre-'51 I believe.
Yes, the sizes you listed are standard for your truck.

Thanks very much for your help. It's just the answer i was expecting. Yes i can get them relined in the UK, but i shall check out jim carters site also, a spare set would be handy if your intending to use the truck as a daily driver.

Talk to jeff at Bowtie Bits in Wichita KS, I got new brakes for my 49 3/4 ton from him, gave him my cores. He can even re line the originals if needed

In my research I found that the '52 3/4 ton brakes are the same as my 51 1 ton. If you send me some pictures (a.idler@comcast.net), or the casting numbers off of your wheel cylinders, we can compare them to mine. The parts for mine are readily available and reasonably priced.

When I called jeff at bowtie bits back when I was doing my brakes, if they had grooves in the outer edge of the drum they were huck bracks and smooth they were bendix. hope that can help you to ID them.

For anyone having a big problem getting brake shoes perhaps this tidbit will help someone.
Many tractor trailer shops that do maintenance, like redoing brakes, send out the shoes and have them relined. They don't buy "new"...or relined, shoes from a dealer. Most of them have a truckt that comes around and picks up the cores for relining.
Most of these shops also have the capability ot cut and reline just about any size shoe.
Definitely worth check some shops out in your area and I'll also bet you can save some mooooola!!!

Saving the grocery money isn't the main problem with the 3/4 ton Huck brakes Alvin, it mostly avalability, they just taint avalable anywhere new or used. I've been looking for rear brake drums for two years, I've bought several sets but when I got them they were already way oversize or so badly rusted that they were beyond saving and ended up on the scrap heap. They have been impossible to find just like the brake shoes.

Jim carter lists a rear brake drum for the 3/4T from 47 to 52. Hvae you asked them about the listing?

Yep, I'll by darned, he does list a rear drum. Gonna take me a few minutes to swallow that price though, $132 ea. But I suppose if he's the only show in town and that's what people are willing to pay then that it.
Man I'd like to pick up a pair but I'm also thinking of getting a kit from Novak, one form Mar-K and I would like to get the short block rebuilt this winter. I'm afraid I taint gonna be able to swing all that right now with the economy like it is.

Thanks for your reply Android. I have managed to get my shoes relined here in the uk, to my surprise just 15 miles away from my home. It cost me $160 for all 8 shoes to be relined, but they needed to be done. My only concern now is that a couple of years down the line i will probably need drums, now this could be a problem maybe?
