Are parts from 1955-1959 LCF parts interchangeable among years and how do the GMC equivalents fit in with interchangeability? I need a hood latch and hood emblem for my 1957 and have leads on a 1958 GMC and 1959 LCF that I think are being parted out. Will either and or both work for the hood latch? I realize the 59 chevy emblem is different but will it fit?

THanks,

Ryan

'55-'57 Chevrolet LCF's, are identical. Front sheetmetal changed on the '58, & '59's. '55-'59 GMC front sheetmetal the same, but will not interchange with the Chevrolets. Some cab parts will interchange on both Chevy, & GMC. This link will show the differences, http://www.classiccoe.com/oldcoetrucks/5459.htm

I'd like to make a few corrections. First the 55-57 Chevy LCF are not all identical. The 1955 Cab and Fenders fit 55 only...the fender flair is much flatter on the 55 LCF. Note, in 55 only the 5000 Series LCf's were made.

The 56 and 57 Series 5, 7 & 9 share the same Cab and Fenders...they have a wider fender flair and larger opening to accommodate the "new" larger tire sizes.

The 58/59 LCF share the same Cab and Fenders.

The LCF link at www.classiccoe says that the Chevy LCF used the 6 cylinder motor...this is incorrect, ALL Chevrolet LCF's from 55 thur 59 were only available with V8's. The 6 cylinder motor's were to long to fit.

As for GMC and Chevrolet interchangeability, there isn't much. All Chevy LCF's have the door bubbled carring the fender onto the door, while some GMC's are flat (no bubble) and the fenders are completely different.

Mike, I didn't want to confuse him, that's why I didn't mention the 7000, & 9000 series Heavy Duty Chevy LCF's. He has a 5000 series Medium Duty '57 model, so I only mentioned the 5000 series Medium Duty LCF's. The difference in the '55 LCF fenders, isn't enough difference, that they can't be modified to work, by using the fender extension, & step also, on a '56- '57, that's why I didn't mention that. A friend of mine put fenders, from a '55 model 5100 series LCF truck, on a '57 5700 series LCF,that had badly damaged fenders several years ago, so I know it can be done. The 7000, & 9000 series Heavy Duty LCF's also have the extra air inlet, below the grille.

Spanky,

I went back and reread the original post and see I got off track with my addition to this thread dang. The Hood Catches are indeed the same for all 55-57 Chevy Series 5, 7 & 9 trucks.

The mystery, I've always wondered about, is why, as short as those hoods are, they needed two hood catches. The first time I ever raised the hood on one, it took a minute to figure out how to pull on both catch levers, & still have a free hand (used my shoulder) to push up on the hood.

Radiator is pushed forward into the core support making no room for the center latch (it would be where the radiator cap is located).
