Had that boat anchor in my garage for the past year. It had a warp in it or something. Ran real good for about 15 or 20 minutes, and then white smoke. I changed the head gaskets 3 times, the third time shaving the 235's head nice and flat. Never saw a crack in any of the cylinders, at least none that were visible by the naked eye.

The reason I didn't rebuild it is because it seemed like a lot of money for 100 hp, give or take. But I found someone who wants it. He wants to drop it into a 1946 Ford truck or something...which seems like an odd choice, given that he does have a Flathead V8 he could rebuild for that instead.

But to each their own. He got a good deal...the 235 was free.
I can't get over how clean the garage looks without that thing in there now.

Wish you guys were a little closer- - - - -I'd commit mayhem for a good rebuildable flathead!

As teens we use to troll around town looking for any metal we could sell at the junkyard. I know we must have found an sold 8 or 10 flathead V8s to the metal dealer. Makes me want to cry! cry

Guys, all you have to do is come down to the southwest and cruise through these little towns looking around. You wouldn't believe the cool iron sitting around. This is car/truck restorer's heaven.

Besides that, Taos is a neat place to visit.

As long as you're not trying to buy a place there. Some things about this place bug me. One of them is the unshakable feeling that I am in a foreign country. Another is the trash everywhere; people have no pride in where they live. And another is the unrealistic real estate here; for the same money to buy a tiny place here on an acre, you can have a huge Victorian with many bedrooms back east. Sigh.

Hey Jim.

I don't recall seeing the black '49 Panhead, but I have seen a yellow AD 1/2 ton truck with a dead guy painted on the doors, running around Taos a lot. Do you know him? Lives out on Cottam Rd.

If I can ever get the issues sorted on mine, you'll see my 3/4 ton fire engine red GMC driving around too. We oughta get together sometime...maybe for a cup of coffee at Michaels Kitchen. Us old truck dudes need to stick together.
