For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 72 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 72 | Once my truck is up and running, (hopefully next week :), I expect I will want to maintain decent highway speeds. Any of the fellow Bolters know a good front/rear end combo that will get me to 80+mph, and still allow me to keep it a 4x4? That maybe include some upgrades, like disk brakes and such? Won't be an immediate need, just would like some time to do the research and pricing. (READ AS "Begging and pleading with the wife!" ) Any help is greatly appreciated. (With the truck, NOT the Wife! ) Thanks.

Lovin it, but definitely don't have the experience many have here. But of course thats why most of us are here! | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Really no need to swap axles. A '65 will have a Spicer/Dana 44F up front, and a GM 12 bolt Truck rearend. New gears are readily available in most ratios from 3.08 up into the 4.88 ranges. A 3.55-3.73 would be very good, depending on what size tires you run. About the only reason I can see to swap the fron axle would be to get open knuckles (stronger design) and disk brakes. You'll want to look for a '71-'76 4x4 Chevy to get that axle, most '77-'87 GMs used a 10 bolt up front. Both would work, though.

Don't suppose there is a Saga or tech tip on this particular swap? With ? If not, I will just have to work it out. Thanks for the info.
