I once saw a kit for power steering for a 47-53 but I can't remember were. if any of you have that info that would be great. Oh and can you make it work with the original steering column?

Classic parts has it. CCP has a lot of conversion parts & kits.

When converting your brakes over make sure they are for a truck and not adapted from a CAR as several companys out there are doing this along with having parts made out of the country to fit. That is one of the reasons I went with Early Classics Ent. parts as all are from GM. in the USA. or made here to GM. specs.
Be sure you ask where they are made as I sure would hate to see someone wreck a truck after all his hard work on it.

You can make most any PS conversion work with the original steering column.
Some of the vendors sell a steering column lower bearing and adapter bushing to use when you cut the shaft and jacket off the old box.
Then you can use Borgeson or Flaming River joints and shaft, or scrounge stuff from the junk yard.

That is what I did for my truck, I used Borgeson, but will probably use Flaming River in the future. I have also used u-joints and shafts from the junk yard in another truck, that way is by far the cheapest if you can find what you need.

I put the CPP power steering conversion on my truck and did in fact adapt the stock steering column. The truck is still under construction so I can not tell you how it drives but at the very least, the wheel turn with it up on blocks. I'm just a bit leary of the short steering arm.
Some tips though, I saved some good cash by buying a rebuilt steering box as opposed to going with their.
As for the steering column; I used the stock outer, cut it at the inner firewall and welded a plate at the bottom that bolted to the firewall. I cut the inner shaft and slipped the end into about a 6" section of a D-shaft with a hollow ctr. That was obtained from a van column I thought of using. The column is connected to the box via a universal shaft obtained from a Jeep Cherokee. I basically set the length of the inner shaft so as to work with the Jeep universal cause the Jeep section was way cheaper than the Borgenson or equivalent stuff.
