However, after a week of looking, I can't find any writeups about it. I have a 350/powerglide in mine, and I'm trying to find out what's involved in the swap to a 700R4. I know I'll need to have the driveshaft shortened, and the trans mount relocated, but if anyone can either link me the old writeup, if it's easy for you to find, or possibly put up some measurements? It's a stepside shortbox, 2wd. Also wondering if I'll have any linkage issues, or kickdown cable adjustment issues, or even if I have to have a professional install the shift linkage to make sure I don't burn it up? Thanks in advance :P
-EDIT- I don't have the 700R4 yet, but I'm planning on going with a pre-1991 trans, so I don't have any real electronic issues.

That's a good writeup for the wiring, and seems to be a good baseline for installation, I just wonder if theres' any specifics to my truck I need to be aware of. I've got a book on the GM transmissions, I think it's an Autozone or O'Reilly's book on everything from the 200R4 to the 700R4, maybe the 4L80E, as well. I've done a few rebuilds of the TH350, so I feel I can handle rebuilding a 700. Hopefully that's going to help me set the trans up so I don't grenade it. Thanks again, and if there's any other input, I'd love to hear it. Tony

I've not done it myself, but the expert I listen to on transmission issues says its not a backyard operation.

It's been a little while since I did a trans, but in practice, they work the same, and have very similar guts. The way the 700 works may be a little different, but close enough for me. I also have ASE mechanic advice/help available if need be, so I feel pretty confident. If it takes me twice, that's what it took for my first TH350, and it's a learning experience :P I like to know what's powering/moving my vehicles. The next step for me after the trans will be the rearend, putting in some sort of a positraction unit, but without doing it like a lincoln locker.

You would only have to fab up a tranny mount a little farther back. I have a 700R4 in my '64 already or I would have used a 200-4R.No matter how you go, be sure to set up the TV cable properly or either tranny will die very quickly !!

If the 200R4 is the same length, does that mean the stock driveshaft will fit? That would save me some cash, and I'm all about that!

It's rather steep, but I just happen to have an extra bit of cash laying around that I was trying to figure out what to use it for. I may not have enough after I build the trans I buy, but if I do, it'll be fairly cheap insurance that I don't grenade it from something so retarded as a line setup. I've been looking around, and the trans might end up with around $800-1k in rebuild parts in it by the time I'm done, so another 300 doesn't seem so bad.
