The price was right, so I tried one out. Boy, do they work great! I stripped a set of window sashes that had 100 years worth of gummy house paint on them. It stripped the paint right off without loading up or hurting the wood underneath. I'm sold. I had been hitting them with a heat gun and scraping them and it took an hour to do each one. I did it in less than 10 minutes with the disc and I was being careful. The disc didn't seem to lose much abrasive in the process. Looks like it would be good to strip a truck with, I'm trying that next.
Buy the 7" variable speed grinder/polisher and one of these discs from Harbor Freight and you have a very good solution for about $50.

Searching HF for Norton Rapid Strip gets no results. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | It mounts with the 5/8 thread, just like a wire cup would. It's not found on the HF web site, it may just be a local store item. http://www.nortonconsumer.com/Media/Documents/S0000000000000001032/04013%207in%20Rapid%20Strip.jpgIt's about $15 normally, they had them on sale for $11.99 at the store but they sold out of them fast.

You needed a special attachment to mount the disk to which I wish wasn't needed but I'm looking forward to trying it with some decent rev's. I have two doors to strip..$225-$250 around here..so I'm open to elbow grease at this point in the season..This looks good. I'll also pick up the 7" if I can find one. Thanks.

I've gotten a lot of flak for so much as mentioning these things but gradually, over time even the old timers will come around.
They really are THAT good.
As an aside, I went to the Norton website and will be awarding them the prestigious "STUPIDEST WEBSITE OF THE WEEK AWARD" Don't these morons want to SELL anything? We call them scourer discs......and yes, they work a treat!
The one you have pictured is a Flap Disc. These are no where near as effective in stripping paint, more suited to metal finishing. | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 403 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 403 | You can get them at a auto paint store that sells to body shops. The ones that brsdb3381 is refering to are used in fabracating steel and used to smooth down welds after welding. 62Blue Don

Thanks again Brad

This is a keeper..
Thanks for the tip..

They work great and it's more convenient to just run to HD when one is needed vs ordering online. | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 615 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 615 | | | |
