I will be picking up this comming weekend a 1936 GMC T-16A Milk truck. Im hoping to get as much information about the milk truck body as possible for my restoration project, any info will be appreciated. Here is what I have so far:
1936 GMC Model T-16 A One Ton Delivery Truck VIN 856224, Decoding Information: Model T-16 A, Chassis No 17126, Straight rating 11000. This GMC Truck at one time served as a milk delivery truck. There were about 26,000 of these trucks produced by GMC in 1936, not many have survived. The hauling area of the trucks were custom built as need for their intended use. Engine is 6 cly 213 disp 26.3 HP 4 speed manual transmission. Original wood top still in place. Original wheels and included is the original engine crank, the seat frame with springs(not much upholstery left). Vehicle measurements: Length: 203 inches, Width: 76 inches, Height 85 inches
I would like to restore it to original but cant find even a picture of an original one. Any info on web sites or forums would be appreciated, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | Welcome and look forward to some pics of this Unique find and I'm sure there will be some Folks with info on it | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | Wow, I saw that one listed. It does need it's work. I am not real savy on this, but I believe the HP rating is way off. That flathead should make over 60 HP. Not sure, just guessing on that. There is another group which may be able to offer you some help. www.oldgmctrucks.com You most likely will be on your own as far as the milktruck body as it was not actually built by gm. You may be able to find some help from that in a milktruck club if there is one. Anyway welcome to the stovebolt and congrats on an awesome looking super rare truck. John

I like unusual vehicles, and It looks like there is enough of the original truck there to work with. It has an excellent article on the history of all the different engines that GMC used in the trucks. | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 4 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 4 | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 769 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 769 | I just love old trucks. BTW. You should always link photos on this site. Other sites don't care, but it helps keep the costs under control and allows better access for those with dial up. | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 61 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 61 | What a great find. I showed your pics to my Dad he really got a kick out them, in the 40's he was my Uncles(local milk man) helper, Dad would go with him every mornin before elementary school to deliver the milk he was the runner that jumped off the truck to collect the empties and drop off the fresh milk and collect the $ while his Uncle Chet drove and took care of the rest. Dad said BOY THAT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES! Thanks for the photos and BEST OF LUCK on your project. Tim P.S. I would love to be working on that one. That motor looks really interesting.
I have to ask about the surroundings there. Is that building housing someone's collection?

The truck currently sits in a museums warehouse with about 100 other very impressive vehicles of all sorts.
On the way out from taking my first look at it I saw an old motorcycle sitting there, had a real wide seat on it, thats what caught my eye, it was an original 1947 Indian chief roadmaster..... the procurer told me it wasnt for sale, ever. | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,109 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,109 | looks like a fun project, a lot of potential there. good luck. ron
