She had been sitting in a garage in Indiana since the mid 90's. Before that she was an Arkansas truck and because of that, the body is in very good shape for it's age. I plan to eventually restore her to original, but right now I'm just working on making her roadworthy again. Installing a battery made it clear that the starter needs a trip to the rebuild shop (brushes completely worn down). After that, a good cleaning of the gas tank, fuel pump and carb will probably have her running again. Fixing the nonexistent brakes and finding a set of original wheels and hubcaps will come next after that. Those chrome-nugget rims and 265/75/16 tires really make the truck look weird. Thanks for making this such a great forum guys. I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me as I make progress with this old beast. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | Hey Tony; welcome to the shop. Great pictures of a neat old truck. We'll look forward to seeing the progress you make with it. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 | Welcome. Looks like you have a nice project ahead of you. If you are like me, you will have a blast working on it, then some days you will want to sell it, and back to loving it again. Good luck as you go, and be sure to post lots of pictures. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 19 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 19 | If you are like me, you will have a blast working on it, then some days you will want to sell it, and back to loving it again. That definitely sounds like me. I have to have more than one thing around to work on because I will get [censored] at one project and go to the other. Then I go back and forth and eventually (usually) they both get done. This one will be good. Not like my others where I get it roadworthy and then get tired of it and sell it. I'll get it road worthy and play with it for a while. Then after a few months I'll get tired of playing with it and take it completely apart to start restoring it. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 | Welcome fellow Apache owner. I've got two of them that are only a little ahead of the stage you're at. I'm just trying to get them back to being roadworthy again. I'm almost there on both of them. One is ready to go and I just have to bleed the brakes on the other and then I can take it for a cruise.

Those chrome-nugget rims and 265/75/16 tires really make the truck look weird. I agree, but they look to be in decent shape. So here's a suggestion, because I'm a thrifty bugger: Turn the tires blackwalls out, and paint the rims to match your grille, roof and bumpers. They might grow on you that way, until the tires wear out. Are you sure those are 16's? 1951 3800 Be the change you want to see. -hotshoe

If they were 245's or 235's they would probably look fine. I don't plan on getting new tires and rims till after I get it running and driving anyway. I like to be original, so I'll probably try and find a set of original rims and center caps. First things I have to worry about are rebuilding the starter and master cylinder to get her back on the road. That's all assuming it fires up and runs without any engine issues... I haven't had the engine running yet. | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | Welcome Tony, Looks like you got yourself a KEEPER THERE! keep us informed an WITH PICS!..we like pics..sure looks good an sound.
