After living with my Crapsman 18V drill/driver for about 5 years I finally decided enough of a crappy tool is enough. The Crapsman came with two batteries that lasted about two years of intermittent use. I bought two more @$75 each that lasted less than two years. I now have a new Dewalt 18v drill/driver on the way. Does anyone want a Crapsman??????? I have one for sale that I'll let you have CHEAP. grin

I also went from a Craftsman 14.4 volt drill to a DeWalt 18 volt. Man what a difference.I can leave it lay in the shop for a month and pick it up,and it is ready to go.My first battery drill was a Craftsman which worked good and lasted for years, but however when I replaced it with a new Crsftsman about 5 yrs. ago,it was a piece of crap.Craftsman power tools aint what they used to be.

Tiny,
Does your new drill come with lithium batts ?..if not the life expectancy for the Dewalts isnt that great either..I used mine as stated in there manual discharging and rechargin them ...an after a yr and a half they both good for bought 6 holes before they poop out.
At work they got Milwakee lithium an they seem to be holding up well so far.

They're NiCad batteries but the manual says it has a "smart charger" you're supposed to leave the battery on the charger & after a certain period of time it automatically balances the individual cells within the battery pack. It says the reason the battery packs don't charge fully is when one cell is fully charged, even when the rest aren't, a normal charger stops charging. We'll find out how well it works. smile

Got it today. I charged both batteries and put a garden bench together with it. Easy job but it's a lot more comfortable than the Crapsman and has a ton more torque. I like that not only CAN I leave the extra battery in the charger so there is always a fully charges battery available but they recommend you leave it in the charger. I did that with the Crapsman at first & fried the battery.

I learn somrthing new everyday.Dewalt (Black and Decker)Never heard that one before. Most of Sears stuff is made by Black and Decker the last few years.I also know Black and Decker bought out Delta tools, but evidently they are still built the same old way by the original Delta process.

I have 3 18 volt deWalt drills. The oldest one is about 8 years old. It has seen a lot of abuse, including falling from the top of my 44' ladder onto a roof, bouncing down onto the barnyard into 6" of water. It finally quit on me this spring. I get the XRP batteries. I would recommend these drills to anyone.
