Hello, This question may have been asked before, but a little searching on the forum last night and it didn't pop right up. There are a lot of old navy 1/2 ton AD shells coming available, and I am wondering what sheet metal parts will interchange with a 1 ton 3800 series truck, or for that matter, a 3600 3/4 ton. I read somewhere that the grills are larger on a 3800, and that the fenders might be larger or have different mounting holes because of larger wheels. Then somewhere else I read that everything under 1 1/2 ton is the same?? Before I make some big stupid mistake and buy a truck that won't help me, I'd like to get the straight poop.

1/2 to 1 ton are same as far as the front sheetmetal and cab goes, the front bed panel, tailgate, and rear fenders are the sam, too. Once you get into 1 1/2 ton, that's were things get different.

GMC fenders have holes for the parking lights, which Chevies do not have.

So all I haveto do is create holes in the front for the lower lights? Also I noticed that the hood and grill assembly look a little different. Can I use every thing else off the chevy to attach to the GMC? How about the dashboard?

Grille is totally different between Chev and GMC. You can make fenders work. Cab including dash will interchange 48-53 Gauges are different but fit the same bezel, 54 on up Chev and GMC used a different dash

Cool. Thanks guys. I bought one of those old navy trucks this weekend for parts to put on my 53 GMC. I didnt notice a lot of different stuff until I bought it. The chrome on this thing is so pretty. To bad I cant use the shiny front grill! All of the sheetmetal is in way better shape then my GMC. Not a bad deal for $600. I couldnt have bought two front fenders and had them delivered for that price.

The whole front end will bolt right on,we had a 53 GMC that was wrecked in the front and we put a 49 Chevy front end on it.
