Hi buds, been a while, but I have been working on the great rust mountain, which I will have to change its name now.... wink

Anyhoo, I swapped in a 292 from a C50 dump truck in my 59 1 ton that a guy brought me, but I am not sure how the accessories / fan / waterpump all go together and I wondered if anyone had some advice or a picture they could send me. This is how it looked more or less when I got it.

Overhead view of fan belt/alternator

I'll probably put A/C on this thing eventually. I have since last post mounted this engine, replaced all the brake stuff (including kevlar front brake shoes) and got that working, plumbed the fuel line and painted the cab. Now working on throttle linkage, new wiring harness, and the belt issue.

Any advice appreciated, thank you O' River of Knowledge...

Hey Irwin! Does the crankshaft pulley line up with the alternator? If so, have you tried a short-shaft water pump? Dunno if one is made for a 292, but you could call Patrick's and see.

BTW, this is Kyle Berry. I haven't been around much lately, but I am back. Are the North Texas Stovebolters still having periodic get-togethers?

Checked the site, didn't see anything for the 292. The crank pulley has 3 slots. One lines up with the alternator. (its a 1969 motor) One lines up with the water pump pulley (almost - off just about 1/16). The alternator is ok because I could stick a little belt on that and tension it up just fine. The water pump/fan pulley though doesn't really have anything to tension with. I thought I might go find an idler somewhere and then weld up a tensioner bracket. I just got through welding up a new battery holder sized to fit a couple of batteries I have kicking about in the garage, one bought new, and the other given to me.

I haven't heard boo from the North Texas boiz since last year at Keller's. Be nice to get my old tub runnin. Its nice to get the old thing going together after all the distractions such as work..... wink

Is this a trick question?
Do you have a spacer between the pump and the pulley?

Weren't no trick question. With the stuff I had on hand, that's how it lined up. Alternator hooked up to first of 3 pulleys on crank, and water pump on the outside. So I went to the boneyard and got a bracket off a junker and an idler off another and made this:
Idler

so that ought to take care of that... wink

(Took me a while to get a picture as my camera was in the shop)

I didn't know you had replied until just now. The pully on the water pump should not have a spacer behind it. The back edge of the pulley should just clear the water pump and line up with the alt as well as the rear pulley groove on the crank pulley. One belt. The pictures you posted shows the pump pulley out so far it could only have been done with a spacer.
