Have decided to put the 261 together for "Sludge" my '55 210 but now need .020 main and rod bearings and gasket kit to get the job done. Anyone know of a source? Looked on Patrick's and they have bearings for 235 but see only gasket set for 261. All help appreciated.

Did you call Patrick's and talk to them? I bought 0.010 main and rod bearings for my 261 from them two years ago. Are not 261 and late 235 rod and main bearings the same? You could also try Chevy's of the forties or Jim Carter's Antique Trucks, or Egge. Are your main bearings the the tang or pin type? I have seen replacement engines for the 1954 261 that use the tang type, but the original 1954 261s used the pin type.

Have not talked to Patrick's yet. Planning to call them tomorrow. Motor is a '59.

235's and 261's use the same main and rod bearings. Order them for the same year 235 and you will be fine.

Rods and pistons are not the same, though.

Patrick's catalog is a lot more thorough than the website. Ask for one if you call.

56pu,

I don't know about Omaha, but here in San Bernardino, there are several places that have or can get parts for the 235/261. I would make some local calls before I ordered engine parts from across the country.

1956-62 235 & 261 engines:

Rod bearings: Federal-Mogul part # 6-1950CP(set)
Individual rod bearing part # 1950CP
TRW part # CB146P
Undersizes available: 1-2-10-20-30-40-50-CA60

Main bearings: Federal-Mogul part # 960M
TRW part # MS1721P
Undersizes available: 1-10-20-30-40-50-60

The above numbers are from the Federal-Mogul master bearing catalog. Most automotive warehouses that have been around awhile will have access to those parts, but don't count on the amateur do-it-yourself stores like Auto Zone, etc. to be able to order them. NAPA should be a good source, even if they have to cross-reference to their own part numbers.

Thanks to all who replied. Ended up having the shop order as they get a 20% discount--from Patrick's. They had everything I need--they even have a reasonably priced full rebuild kit--that I won't be needing.
