Are COEs a rarity in the stovebolt world? A must-have, something to die for? Or are they in the 'whatever floats your boat' category with limited takers?

Here the scoop. Definitely time-sensitive. I've just discovered an upcoming farm auction nearby, in just 3 days, that has two 5700 COEs and a 1949 6100 grain truck on the sale bill. It's not widely advertized and, if someone doesn't rescue these trucks, they'll likely be shredder fodder.

I don't know much about them right now. Auctioneer says they're in 'excellent condition'. I'm heading out this afternoon to try and get some pics, block casting numbers, condition report, etc.

So, are there often people out there looking for a COE (here, or on Craigslist or eBay)? I've checked the Trucks for Sale forum, but posts there are mostly out of date. Am I likely to loose my shirt, or be stuck with them indefinitely, if I pick them up for a song (around scrap metal prices)? Or two songs? Would you belive a song and a dance?

Opinions welcome and appreciated, even if you don't have the slightest interest in a COE. If you do have an interest, let me know quick-smart with your reply e-mail, and I'll try to get pics to you.

Thanks, Mark

Here's my take, COE's are less common and have a smaller following in the truck scene in general but if you can get them for a good price for the condition you won't have too much trouble reselling them. I think they're cool and would like to have a 1.5-2.5 ton COE but there just don't seem to be very many in my part of the country (mid-Atlantic region). I always think of them as being used mostly in larger agricultural operations. Get them if you can.

I have 2 COE's and I'm always looking for parts, especially sheet metal. Send over some pics if you get them.
Thanks, John
