Naturally, the steering needs to be modified to accomodate the drop (4 inches). Before I begin to modify the steering, does anyone have any pointers? I'm assuming that I will need to heat and bend the steering arms down and shorten the tie-rod. Are there other options? I'd appreciate any feedback before I begin.

Be sure to do your homework pertaining to "bump steer". Some of the geometery is important to the way the truck handles. A big drop makes it hard to get the proper caster with stock springs. The leverage will tend to make the axle "bend" the spring over. Dropped axle's are pretty cool looking though!

I had to buy the Heavy duty tie rod end upgrade kit. This allows the tie rod end to be mounted on the opposite side of the steering arm, therefore you wont have to bend it.
Not sure if 48s have the same option. | | |

Mark, I had the original axle dropped by Dave Mann in Arizona. He did an excellant job and his work is first rate. He has a pretty good website that explains how he does it and what the prices are. www.roadsters.com I originally ordered a new dropped axle from CENPEN in PA but he jerked me around for months until I finally cancelled my order and went with Dave.
