Does anyone have a close pic of a GMC parking light for a '49. Seems no one remakes a complete assembly though I was able to buy new glass. I just don't know how it is retained to the beat up bulb housing I have

That pic was perfect. It looks like I am just missing the outer ring that presses the glass to the housing. I will have to try and make something I guess.
And thanks for the link to that GMC truck site. I did not know about that one.

vik,
here is the sister site:

http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/

I think the site is static now but Rob has some photos of parts that he has available. I would imagine that he could fix you up with what you need. Personally I didn't bother with original lights but used the later Chev lights which are available new with the dual bulbs. They look very similar.

You can look on Ebay. Sometimes people are selling complete assemblies. I know that I sold my original ones off my 1949 GMC because the P.O. had enlarged the holes in the fenders so much that they didn't fit anymore. Ended up buying '51 to '53 assemblies which were just a tad larger and they look very much like the originals. As the other posters stated, Rob at oldgmctrucks may have some. Another person you can try is Mother Trucker in AZ. That's where I bought my lights. Not cheap but he has a large supply of trucks and can probably take care of what you need.

There's a set up for sale on ebay right now but they are not original to the 1949 AD series. The seller thinks that they are but they appear to me to be a substitute brand
