I thought I would just do one panel at a time and only replace what has to be replaced, so I do not get anything too far out of whack. I already have the patch panels, and have read about the problems with the inner to outer cowl panel not fitting well, so I am REALLY looking forward to messing with that. Body work is not my strong suit - give me a motor or chassis any day.
I am finally done patching the floor and am ready to move on. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | If your floor is already in and you're not going to have to replace the sill, just do everything together. The sill and floorboards will keep the cab in alignment. I'm in the process of doing mine and found even a badly rotted cab like mine will hold it's shape unless you really go crazy cutting stuff out of it.
The big issue with the inner-to-outer cowl is the fact that you'll have to verify the fit between the fender and the cowl and adjust the inner-to-outer to hold the outer cowl in a shape that matches the fender. I haven't gotten to that part yet so I can't say which is the correct shape.
Also measure the width of the cab at the point where the width of the hood has to go. You could go wrong here if you don't measure and/or test fit.

Also, the curve on the bottom of the kick panels will not be correct. I guess I am lucky or blessed. I did not have to replace any big sections of the floor. The worst part was the part directly above the brace that the front of the cab mounts to the frame through. All flat, so I just cut a piece of 16 gauge and welded it in. There was also some rot around the emergency brake hole.
I am only going to have to replace the lower 12 to 14" of the outer cowl panels, so I am hoping that the hood and fender fits are not messed up. | | |
