I have the cab in bare metal, and am almost done prepping the inside of the cab and finishing up all body work. My question is, when I am donewith this, I intend to shoot the entire thing, inside and out with epoxy primer, and then during the recoat window put on the high build urathane primer in preperation to block. Does this sound correct. The man at the autobody store said not to use etch primer with the epoxy as there may be adhesion problems. Does this procedure sound good to everyone or am I missing a step.

I don't know that it is necessary to use etch primer. Some say that it is for new metal. I have used it on a couple of restorations before using the primer. They turned out fine. I think makeing sure the metal is clean before using either is most important. Cleon

Thanks for the reply, I know back when I was young and spry we simple would just wipe it down with laquer thinner and shoot that old red primer and then paint. What do you suggest using to ensure that the metal is clean? Or just good wiping with lots of laquer thinner and lots of rags

Jim:
There is now a product specifically for cleaning before paint. It is called wax and grease remover and is available from auto paint supply stores. I use it rather sparingly by putting it in a squirt bottle, spritzing on the surface, then wiping off with a clean paper towel. It is important to wipe it off before it dries to get the contaminants off. I usually work a 2'X 2' area at time to ensure it doesn't dry before it is wiped.

I hope this is helpful.

Well the man at Terry's Auto in Hollywood was great to talk to answered all my questions. AM going to be shooting the entire cab inside and out with PPG DP 40LF. I also picked up the wax and grease remover, and some Rage Extreme. The rage extreme is extremely easy to work. thanks for the advise
