heres a before and after shot of my bigbolt.
350 v-8 small block 4sp and 2sp rear
it started as my plow truck, went into the shop to fix the brake lines, ended up doing all the brakes completely, had the rims off so why not sandblast and paint?, then the bed needed some work so why not some welding and paint, then the cab needed help so why not do that too, it is definitely overkill on a 67-72 before1 before2 after1 but now I will be able to register it and drive it.
it is no show piece but should be around for another 40 years.

definately a sweet lookin rig, i hope my 61 will turnout that nice one day but yours looked in alot better shape to start with then mine does....

i am not sure if i have the widowmakers or not, maybe someone can tell from the photos.
I am not to concerned because they cant hurt me now, my tire guy would be able to handle these no problem.
I wish I had the time to switch to the cast wheels and hubs that I picked up with my parts truck. Those look really nice when they are all painted up. It is a lot of work to switch cause I would want to swap the whole axle, springs, and spring perches and everything else to use the F070 #7000 frt axle.
oh well if I dont sell them maybe I will make the time to swap em out wheel close1 wheel close2

No the one on the right is a three piece tube type and the one on the left is a two piece the widowmakers come apart in the center

About wheels, I agree with Grant, keep the right front wheel, look for a replacement for the left front.

If you want tubeless wheels and 22.5" tires you can buy new ones from Accuride, but a set of 6 adds up to a fair amount of money. They can be found used if you search for a while

If you already have everything you need to run the cast spoke "Dayton" wheels then that would be the cheapest option for tubeless wheels. 22.5" Dayton rims are easy to find used, and new they are around or just less than $100 each.

I drive a 98 GM 6.5TD 4x4 Crew Cab dually as my daily driver

but I'm a NOOB to bigger trucks and just purchased a 1966 C50 Dump and noted your comments on wheels.

I guess I'm confused on which is which..does mine have the split rims on front?

Looks like you already have the newer tubeless single piece wheels.
If the tires are 22.5" then you can be sure you have the new wheels.

It's got 22.5 Bridgestone Radials on the front, Goodyear RockLug recaps on the rears ~ probably less than 500 miles on the entire set...they kinda look "like a diamond in a goats ..."

Welcome....Good looking '69 you have there...I have a '72 C40 parts truck. Will be using 292 for my New '54 1 ton. Might use hydro brake system also, if I can get it figured out. If you need something off the '72, let me know.

I agree that the fronts look like the 22.5's but look closer at the rear, looks like a posible widowmaker on the rear hard to tell by the pick.

I called my classic auto insurance company today to add my c50 to my policy and they told me they do not insure dump trucks at all.
When I called in february of this year, someone there told me they would insure a c50 as an antique auto with no problem.

Now I do not know what to do. I have a restored truck that I wish to drive to shows and around town on the weekends and I will have to pay $1500 a year in commercial insurance to do it! My antique insurance company quoted me $64 a year for a c50! I need some help. Who will insure this vehicle as an antique or classic for a more reasonable rate than $1500 a year? My state is connecticut.

Can you insure it as a farm truck?

I wanted insurance just for a weekend so I could drive a 78 GMC 6500 dump truck home to part it out.
My regular insurance people absolutely would not insure it because it was a dump truck. I inquired, "what if I had an S10 Chevy with an itty bitty dump bed?" same deal they absolutely would not insure a dump truck.

In the end I paid the uninsured motorist fee for the minimum of one month (not expensive), bought my one way trip permit
($5), and carefully drove it home, about an 8 hour ride.

And I would have preferred to be on the safe side and pay for regular insurance for the weekend, and would have if not for the dump truck part...

For your truck, what if you pull the driveshaft off the PTO, or somehow disconnect it, and also bolt on a bracket keeping the bed from tilting. Then it is an ordinary non dumping truck, will this satisfy your insurance?

that is exactly what I was thinking of saying to the woman on the phone today! I was going to ask her if I weld the bed down to the frame, would they insure it for the $64 they had quoted me. Maybe i should call them tommorrow and see what they say.

I have various cars and trucks insured with JC Taylor. They are very hesitant to insure dump trucks especially as new as yours because many of them are still in commercial service and dump trucks is one of the higher classifications. I insure mine by providing documentation that I am in the trucking business and operate only modern equipment. And then I follow that it is common for people in the trucking business to collect antique trucks. I know some people who insure a cab and chassis reasonably and their primary business is not trucking. You might remove the dump box and insure just the cab and chassis. Once you get the insurance, they rarely do inspections. Just don't try to use it as a dump truck. What does the title call it. Many states just call it a straight truck. If your title calls it a dump truck, you probably will have a problem because it is so common for people with an old dump truck to actually use it as a dump truck.

Heck - you called your insurance company 2x and got 2 different answers...I'd keep calling back until someone answers the phone that will insure you!

well the good news is that I have insurance and registration on my 69 c50. The bad news is its gonna be hotter than heck here in connecticut this weekend so I am worried about the maiden voyage this saturday.
I was able to insure with Gulfway Insurers out of Florida for a very reasonable rate with no questions asked. Many thanks goes out to Tom Cain for his lead to this insurer. They insure race cars, the car haulers and trailers for race cars, and old trucks, as well as other vehicles and accessories/tools. Check out there website at www.racensur.com.
I also hope to take it down to the Zagray farm this Sunday for the summer show and swap meet and try to sell some of the parts I have left.The QVEA in Colchester, ct has a cool show this whole weekend and if you have never been and are in the area you should check it out.
I will try to post some better picts once i get ol' blue all cleaned up and presentable.

Are you going to be able to haul anything with the rig - or is the insurance restricting you?

Gulfway allows you to "haul owned items" only...you can't haul "for hire", which includes hauling your friends junk for a beer as payment...that's bartering and is looked at as the same as "for hire".
