How do you decode the numbers on a 59 1-ton rearend? I have found 7 numbers stamped on the side of the rear 3699535 and 7 numbers on the top of the yoke that mounts to the rear 362199 and then on the side of the yoke it says d 3. do any of these numbers tell me the gear ratio of the rear? Or are they just casting numbers?? The running gear is orginal 283 4speed bulldog with pto. What rears came with a setup like this in 59.

The id number should be stamped on the front upper surface of the differential carrier to the right of the vertical rib. There should be a 2 letter code (plant and ratio) folowed by a3-4 number code (month and day built). Most likely, it will be a 5.14:1, the std ratio for a 3800.
