I have been reading that you can use Chevy 14 bolt rear end parts and that Detroit locker in this rear end if you use 14 bolt axles also. Anyone done so? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,846 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,846 | Nope, can't be done! The internal parts are totally diferent. The 14 bolt axle might swap as a complete unit, but they're way too wide. The 3/4 ton trucks with that rear end ran a 4.56 ratio, and there were a VERY few 4.10's out there behind automatic-transmission 3/4 tons. They're scarce as hens' teeth, and much more expensive! There was a Detroit Locker option in thre early 70's, but that carrier is almost nonexistent now. Most of them went into dirt track race cars in the late 70's/early 80's. Jerry

Am I right this is 4.56 rear end?? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,846 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,846 | The 7/32 probably indicates number of gear teeth, 7 on the pinion, 32 on the ring gear. That divides out to be a 4.57:1 ratio. Since you're inside already, count the teeth and be sure. Jerry

And Jerry's also correct as fur as finding a 4.10, that would be the only option. Find a 1968-72 V8 auto C20-30 and it may have one.
