We moved about 9 miles on 5/30. I finally got some pictures today of my New Shop. Pictures dated 6/5 were made today. Overall it is 30x42 with 9 foot ceilings. This will be a dream since moving out of a garage that was about 18x20. Even the new garage is bigger and has the bonus 6x11 area attached. The pole barn started out 30x32 and the 10' rear section got closed off later on. It needs more insulation and maybe more electricty, but I'll get it all worked out over time.

Each long side has a an air drop in the center and 4 110 volt outlets. There are 2 220 outlets, 1 in each room. The back room has 3 8' floresent lights, while the front bay has 3 rows of 3, one at each side and one down the center. Might experimant with rearranging those later on. There is a working natural gas furnace out there also. Due to recent events, I'm thinking about adding a wood stove too as I have come into a good size supply of wood.

Dale, I'm still on the mend from a broken leg. I saw my Doc on Monday and I can start putting weight on it. 25% a week and I see him again in early August. That's my excuse cool

Today a crew was out and started de-limbing the standing tree. I took the day off to watch. thumbs_up wave They got allot done and will be back tomorrow. Cost is $$$$, but my wife wanted it done. More wood.

Woody, I was out there in a wheel chair with a bow saw cutting the small branches and occasional big one. It's allot cleaner than it was. It will all be cleaned up pretty soon.

I did contact some saw mills about the standing butt of the tree and one replied that if its 3'x20' that would be 844 board feet and they pay 30 to 50 cents per board foot delivered. Looks like more firewood to me at that price. smile

With the cost of propane the way it is I heat my house all winter with wood what it would cost me to heat it for 3 weeks with propane. These new wood stoves are VERY efficient and I highly recommend one.

I lived in Charlotte and barely needed heat. Actually we had a heat pump, but your winters are mild. Point taken. I heated a trailer (mobile home) in Washington with a wood stove. I'd think it would be hard to moderate the house down south?

Heating a house with a wood stove requires the house be designed for it. It either has to be a large open space, like mine, or designed so that the warmth can be circulated much like a forced air system. With the proper design and adequate size stove it's quite possible to heat a house in a cold climate, but if not completely at least defer the cost of buying gas or electricity. I also have a forced air system and a programmable thermostat and about a half hour before I get up it kicks on so I don't freeze my niblets before I stoke the stove.

It may not get down into single digits here on a regular basis but it's all relative. Thirty is cold for these old bones. I'm hardly the outdoorsy type any more.
