For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 | I am planning on buying a small block to drop into my 63 c10 from a family friend. I was having some trouble identifying the engine based on the casting numbers and stuff and was wondering if you all could help. We believe it was a remanufactured engine from GM because it appears that the previous owner tried to paint the motor orange while it was still in the car but could only go back so far and behind that it is black. The casting number on the drivers side rear of the engine is GM5.7LG and below it it read SGI and some other numbers. I'm assuming its a 350 based on the "5.7". The numbers on the passenger side front pad were V0502TRA. Anyway, if you all could provide any more info on it, i would much appreciate it. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | Patrick, There was a post a few days ago by Cletis in regards to casting numbers. He linked a site showing all the numbers. I don't think the number you listed that starts with a V is a casting number. Take a look at the site. It shows where to find the number and what it means. Thanks Cletis. http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htmStuart | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 | yeah i checked that but my number wasnt on there. I believe the actual casting number is underneath where it says the GM5.7 number but he didnt tell me what that said. i googled the GM number and it is definitely a 350 but i was just trying to see if there was any other info i could get on it. | | |
