For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 | The previous owner assembled the steering column and I put the engine and trans in place. The trans shift fine when pushing on the linkage. When moving the column shifter nothing happens. I can get it to go into R and 2nd sometime but will not come back out. I checked the clamps on the shaft(under the dash) and they both seem to be lined up with the bolt though the notches and the bolts install in the top of the clamp. The shift lever lifts the shaft up and down but does not seem to engage in the box in the engine compartment. There is grease and dirt on the screws on the box and it looks like it has never been apart. What might be out of place that would make the shifter not work? Is there something simple in the little box that can come dis-engaged?

There are two C shaped couplings in there with a tang in the middle. Make sure that when the truck is in neutral that the C shaped couplings are lined up. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 | Yep easy fix the tang was not in the middle. smooth shifting! Hook up the gas tank and install the drive shaft and it will yard drive! THANKS AGAIN!! | | |
