The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk went for gas today for first time--- adventure

I got insurance on my truck today so I decided to go get gas, I thought I had plenty to get there, about five miles, mostly down hill. I threw in an empty five to get some extra. My 12 year old went with me and we made it to within 3/4 mile of the gas station and ran out of fuel. We got out and started walking toward the station and got about 300yards and a motor home stopped and picked us up, father and son from Minnesota, they dropped us off at the gas station, waited for me to fill up the 5 and returned us to the truck. Truck ran just fine after adding gas, uneventful trip home, this is the truck that spent time at the High School,that was saddly not a good experience,when I got it home I had to really look closely at it, lots of loose bolts,front shocks were not tightened, rear shocks were only secured on the bottom, the tops were just flopping around. One wheel had the lug nuts put on backwards. On the good side they did find a bad bearing on one of the front wheels that has been replaced.OK I've been remiss, I'll try and take a picture, it's not much to see but it runs good if you keep gas in it. Good story. I thought maybe the "adventure" was trying to arrange financing to fill up the 'bolt. Gas jumped to $4.28/gal at our friendly neighborhood station!!

I think I paid 4.57$ here.

Wow and I thought gas in ATL at $4.10 was expensive!!!

good story.. you say the truck spent time at a high school? you mean it was worked on by a high school automotive class? they don't have enough insurance for me to bring my vehicles there. I'll give them a truck instead. in fact i should do that with my 79 after i put my paperweight motor in it. it'd be a good learner.

I don't visit the Greasy Spoon often but when I do it is full of these stories. As a twenty something kid I too had fuel problems with my 51. The problem was, too much of my money was spent on toys and very little left for gas. It is funny how experience in years raises your IQ.

Good to hear you got to drive your truck, I have no idea how long it will be before I get to drive mine in for gas.

so you need to fix the gas guage add it to the list

I got fifteen gallons, how much does it hold? Gas guage is correct I think, after fifteen gallons it read between 3/4 and full.
