Hi: I'm trying to determine specifically what year/model trucks came stock with this AC air cleaner (It's the FIRST picture you see when you bring up this link: http://1954advance-design.com/Web%20images/1950-standard-air-cleaners.jpg
They were apparently standard equipment on series 3000 and 4000 trucks through the mid 1950s. I'd like to know exactly what years they were available, and is this what you got unless you paid extra for the oil-bath type air filter? If anyone is familiar with their history, please share some info with me if you don't mind. Thanks, Evans
Many thanks, Evans

They came on trucks in the 30,s & early 40,s. They used a wire mesh filter element.
That is a beautiful engine. I like those horns.

Wrench Bender: Thanks for that. Were these unique to Chevrolets, or were they an after market item, or? I always thought that oil-bath filters preceeded the wire mesh, but I guess it was the paper filters they preceeded. Evans

Those air cleaners where standard equipment on light trucks from the later 1940's to about 1953or 54.

Closest thing today is probably the Hellings bonnet style as it is a dry type and about the same size.

Great photo. That is one sanitary engine compartment. Makes me want to kick mine up a couple notches above stock too.

They were original equipment. The oil bath was an option or came on HD models. The oil bath pretty well took over in the 50's & was phased out in the early 60's for the dry filter type.
