For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 165 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 165 | Does anyone know why the axles would have had different splines in a 46, 1.5 ton? I got a different rear end for my truck, and all the numbers matched on the ring gear, pinion, etc. Come to find out these spider gears have 10 splines, and my axles have 16 splines. Bottom line I need a set of axles for this rear end.I know what your gonna say! I scrapped the old one. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin Kevin

Did you install it into a 46 GM housing? You may actually be looking for some spider gears. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,548 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,548 | | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 165 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 165 | Thanks for the response. Yes both differentials were the exact same, including the numbers on the spider gears. I made a road trip today down south into Oklahoma where there are quite a few 1.5 ton trucks for parts. I did find what I was needing, but we pulled axles out of 4 different ton and half chevy rear ends to find a set with 10 splines. Thanks to Tom's truck parts in Miami Oklahoma. Tom said as long as he has been in the parts business he did not no why there was a difference. All of his rear ends looked exactly the same, but one had the 10 splines instead of 16. Im good to go!
