Well I am getting closer to finishing the body work and tearing it down to the frame to paint. Runs great and sounds awesome with the stacks and 3 inch flowmaster. I installed a new 350 chevy engine and a 205 transfer case.
My idea was to make a 4 wheel drive pickup version of the COE as if they had made one for that GMC 450 model. The tires are about the same size as the orginals, the height off the ground is within 4 inchs, The 1950 pickup bed is 9.5 feetlong (two beds joined together). There is plenty enough leg room and the gas and brake pedal are mounted in the proper position. I used the original e brake handle.
The only change overs are a modern brake power assist brake system with disc brakes up front, v-8 engine Automatic transmission, tilt wheel, soon to be electric windows, power steering 1/2 ton suspension for a smooth ride, heavy duty custom made sway bar to keep it from rolling on turns and late model, Posi-drive axels front and rear, silverado seats for comfort and the built in shoulder seat belts.
Basically a period authentic truck with modern safety options. The old style pickup beds give it the look I wanted. Oh and I always wanted to have a truck with chrome stacks. I mounted truck lockers on both sides instead of doing a running board or gas tanks. More utility and places to lock up my tools
I am thinking of painting it two tone with darker fenders and lighter cab. Green or blue.... without flames.
Here is a picture of the truck taken today There area more pictures of the truck on the link below.
