I just bought a rear end from Jimbo, nice guy. Anyhow, is there any way I can identify what year its is? Or if it is a first edition or second edition (saw that question in a parts catalog). From what I can tell, there is no tag on the rear end. It is from 1955 to 1959 per Jimbo, I was just hoping to get the precise year and gear ratio.

That will let you identify what gear ratio is inside. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | if it came out of a 55-59, it won't matter what year, they're all the same - and the standard was a 3.90 ratio, very unusual to find any other .... real easy to find the ratio before you install it - you should open it up to clean, check the gears and replace the gaskets anyway, just count the teeth
