Cleaning all the gunk and crud off the 261 engine to prepare to rebuild and looking closer at the oil pan I see what looks like two iron pipes with end caps and cut wires sticking out? Previous oil temp sensors??? Does a 261 pan have these? What do you think? Can post picture, but need help.

If removing patching these is there any advice on doing it, weld, etc?

Thanks,
Eric

Do a search on linking pics in ITShort Bus or General Truck Talk. This is covered a lot. Bill is supposed to be working on re-doing the glovebox manual that explains to new members how to link pics but I don't think he has it done yet.

I've not seen the like before. I'm in there with DrewP. As for removing & welding the hole shut, I don't see why you couldn't but remember it's only original once. ohwell

Why not just swap oil pans? There must be a bunch of 235 pans out there that will bolt right on. I agree with the others that you've probably got some sort of heater for cold weather warm-up, but once you start welding on your pan, it will probably warp and leak. Maybe once the heater is removed, simple pipe plugs could be used to fill the holes. The pan will have to be removed and cleaned, no matter what you decide to do.

I vote that it is oil heating elements. "sort of" like what is in a water heater. Do you know the history on this truck? Maybe it came from some part of the country that gets real cold.
