A friend was taking auto machine shop and needed a project. It's rebuilt and painted and on a stand. I got all the openings taped over and it's covered with palstic in my garage. I think it will be a least two years before I can put it in the truck (I just had the frame blasted). So, what do I need to do to keep this engine in good shape? | | |
#41800 10/30/2003 10:51 AM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,897 | If you have a marine supply place, you can get a can of the spray oil they use to fog the inside of engines when they store them for the winter. Spray it into the cylinders and turn it over a few times(you will not be able to run the engine as is recommended on the can). This will help to keep things covered and keep the rust out. I hate to have any engine that is fresh or barely ran sit for that long though

Throw in some silica gel (desiccant) bags where you can get them out without taking the plastic off, and dry them out in the oven every 3 months.
