Mine is located on the driver's side 'block', not head 3/4 of the way back from front (towards driver) directly below the throttle linkage. It is then flex-tubed (metal) up through the firewall and into the guage cluster. | | |

It should go in the head as the lower part of the block will not have an accurate reading.
Do you have a picture of the one you have?
