I have been kind of on hold for a while with my truck since the garage got crushed by a tree, but the other day I ended up pulling out the truck because another bolter on the site came down and picked up a cab that I had. Under the engine there was a puddle of oil/gas mixture that I believed to be more gas than anything else since I knew I had a gas leak that I fixed at the pump.
Long story short the truck was in the grass for a day then I pulled it back into the garage. Under the truck was oil and just parking it for a second in the garage there was a puddle. Now the engine is certainly not as clean as my other vehicles and it aways looked like it was soaked in oil anyway. A friend claims that it is the splash oil bath air filter that caused it originally, but now with that completely removed, I fear it is much more involved.
Plus this is something new, when I shifted today it sounded like metal clanging. I figured that before I got too excited I would throw out a line and see what people thought. Mind you the engine claims to have 27K on it, but from 1952 I would say there could be leaks just from age itself.
As if that all was not enough the brakes failed today and will need a full rebuild I am sure and acting on the question from my son on the windshield wipers that also broke and the wipers are on all the time. Today was not a bolt day! Thanks God the Harley fired up and ran great.
I guess if I was to rebuild the engine, mind you that is not something I really want to do. What would be the general cost to have it rebuilt vs doing it myself. Would it be cheaper to find a 235 in the New York area and drop that in since it has an oil pump.
Ok I am rambling and probably more down that I want to be on this now. Mind you I still do not have the entire garage built back up and I am already thinking of my next move.

They all have oil pumps. They just weren't all high pressure. As for the oil leak, it could be from a number of places. Without being there the only advise is to investigate it & see where it's leaking. You might try putting a piece of cardboard under the truck to isolate the leak from what's already on the floor. You should be able to tell if it's oil, brake fluid or water and also the general area it's coming from. It will cost you in the neighborhood of $2500 +/- to rebuild the engine. If you change the engine out be sure to check your title to see if the engine number is your VIN first. If it is and you replace the engine you won't have your VIN anywhere on the truck. You'll either have to go through the hassle of retitling it with a new number yourself or pass the headache on to the next owner.

I think the first thing I am going to do is degrease the engine. It is more covered than any other I have ever seen, it is almost caked on. I would say 1/4in thick in some places.
