In my experience, fan shrouds serve a purpose. Did the 1960 GMC pickups (305a) have a fan shroud? If so, where can I get one, as my truck doesn't have one...

I don't know about the GMC, but I do know the '60-'61 Chevy C10 had a fan shroud that looked like the passenger car shroud. The '62 had a beefier, more stoutly built fan shroud, but it still looked like a barrel stuck to the radiator.
'63-'66 also had a shroud; 3-piece style, with side skirts that removed.

I've seen both the '60-'61 style and the '62, and for my truck I prefer the '62, which should bolt into the earlier ones.

I would suspect the GMC versions are the same, since the core supports and all the front sheetmetal are the same.

installed one on my 57.
got it from classic parts of america. 92 bucks with shipping. OUCH !!
since my temp gauge dont work, dont know if it helped at all, since my truck dont run hot anyway.
but looks better with than without, and will save my fingers when working under the hood when running. LOL.
took a bit of fabricating, cutting, to custom fit, but i am happy witht he results.

I checked with Chevy Duty, Obsolete Chevy, Brothers, and LCM. They all sell rad shrouds for 59 - 63 and up but no 60,61, or 62. Weird.
Check with NAPA.

Yeah...pretty much anything for '60-'62 is off the radar!
My theory on why they're always missing is pretty simple: They have to come off to change the water pump. First the shroud is unbolted, then pushed back to the engine block. Oops...you have to remove the fan belt first. Okay, that's done, now you can get your fingers on the fan blade's bolts and remove it, using the radiator as a cheese grater on your knuckles. Fan's off, now you have access to the water pump. Swap out the water pump, get the fan belt back on, install the fan and...oh crap...there's the fan shroud still on the work bench.
Either that, or they just didn't like dealing with the fan shroud and left it off deliberately.
Same process for a radiator repair.

yea, its a pain to work around for sure.
i cut the bottom of mine in half, and made a bracket to bolt the two together. like my old 1970 chevelle had, if i rememebr correctly.
the shroud itself was 70 bucks, the rest, 22 dollars was shipping.
dont know how they get 22 dollars to ship a plastic fan shround, and SID only charged 35 dollars to ship my 55lb complete front axle...

Yes-I have done the same. I have found fan shrouds to be really important at slow speeds.I got a used one off of ebay, but I am not sure it is the right one, as it is bigger than the radiator itself. I will give it a try-I appreciate all of the input. I am trying to find a pic of a stock one, as that will help...

Well, the ebay one won't fit! If anyone know where to get one, I'd appreciate the input. Runs fine now, so I'll just keep looking! Always something!

have you checked at your local salvage yard? I'd suggest checing under the hoods of old school busses and perhaps 1 1/2 and 2 ton trucks. They seem to always have one on them. I adapted one from a '58 school bus to fit my 1/2 ton, wasn't to hard to do, I had to add a couple of L shaped adapter peices to the sides to fit my core support.
