I have a 61 Apache with no key. The ignition works fine but I can't lock it. I'd like to change the tumbler. Will it come out without the key? If so, is there a number on the tumbler that will allow me to get a key made (if I can find anyone who remembers how) or do I need to replace it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I know the tumbler on my door lock had a number and I had a key made ...the ignition must have one too??? Peter

What kind of a shop did you go to to have it made. a Chevy dealer or a locksmith? Thanks.

Most ignition lock cylinders do not have the number on them. As stated above, the door locks do. If the door and ignition locks are original, they will be keyed the same.

You cannot remove the cylinder without the key. This being said, you have to buy a new ignition switch. Napa has a package you can order online and it includes both parts for about $25. I just had to replace mine as I bought it with no key. Come to think of it, if you have an extra lawn tractor hanging around, that ingition switch will work as a temp fix. Again this is what I did until my parts came in. Good luck.
