I'm going to rebuild my cylinder head, to get the rockershaft off you first need to remove what looks like an oil line of somesort that comes up and loops around the rockershaft, right in the middle of the head. Anyone know a good way to remove this?

I've not had one off of a 261 but I'm assuming it similar to my 216 in that there should be a line through the head connecting to the fitting you describe. There should be a compression connector between the line & fitting. Simply undo the connection & lift the head off. If I'm full of beans I'm sure someone will let us know. grin

Depends on the year of the 261 parts: block, head, and rocker-arm assembly. People could have mixed and matched parts over the years. Any chance you could post a photo (or mail a photo for me to post)?

Tiny, a photo of that oil line on a 216 might also be helpful.

Here are some photos of rocker-arm ...sembly and an earlier 216/235 assembly).

I agree with you. I think the oil connector is most likely just pushed into a hole in the head.

It looks like you have the head off the block already. If that is the case, there is no concern about what type of oil-feed connection you have between the camshaft/lifters and the head.

Just unbolt the rocker-arm assembly and carefully left it off the head.

Thanks Lederman, I got it off, i should have looked at it closer to see it is welded to that bushing that goes between the 2 piece rocker shaft.

Your pic 52896 shows the hole in the head where this oil line would pass through on a 216. Looks like a 261 is different, hmmmm. grin

Thanks, Tiny. What year manual is that page out of? That is very helpful in trying to understand the different ways that oil was delivered to the rocker arm assembly

Hi Tim, it's the 38 car/truck manual. I bought a reprint of the original.
