For that price it better jump out of the can, onto my truck and polish itself to a brilliant shine while I sleep! Has anyone here ever used Nason paint? I can get a gallon of the same color in that brand for "only" $140 for Ful-Cryl II, to $170 for Ful-Thane. | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 204 | Just as point of reference I pulled my January invoice for the single stage PPG Acrylic Enamel and it was $213.15 per gallon. So the Nason paint seems like it could be good value. My old truck's still running good, my ticker's ticking like they say it should, I got supper in the oven, a good woman's loving, and even my bad days aint that bad...Yeah, I'm a lucky man! 1953 Chevy 3100 Shortbed1965 C-30 Panel Truck 1963 C-20 Long/Fleet Pick-up California Black Plate

Even with BPS going for about $30 a gallon considering how much easier it is to spray this new stuff we might be talking about false economy going with the BPS... which I was considering. | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 30 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 30 | I've shot their Fulcryl II. You have to add a hardener. As usual, mix per instructions and it will lay down nice. Good gloss and durability. | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 427 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 427 | Try to find a ppg dealer and look into either omni or shop line brands. | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | The full service auto refinishing shop in Raleigh is a Car Quest Refinishing store and they sell PPG and DuPont but I think the only off-brand they handle is Nason. | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 | I bought a gallon and a half of paint, reducer & hardner for it for $160.00. LESONAL is a good product. I got single stage urethane & it looks as good as any two stage. tartan turquoise 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 502 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 502 | Woody, I hear ya,paint has gone up higher than the moon...like solid tan PPg..61.00/ qt plus hardner. I mostly buy from out of state. They have paint which ranges from 25 to 60 bucks a gal. depends on color and type. They have enamel, acrylic enamel, and polyurethane, plus hardners and clears. Even with the freight its less money than buying local stuff. The downside is they don't do metallic paint, but they will do you a color if you send them a sample. Dan

First time I've ever painted a vehicle. Used HVLP, layed down nice, only had two runs in the whole job(lucky). I've gotten many compliments about the paint. Everyone tells me it looks great and can not belive it's a single stage paint job. I even got a little artsy and did a flame job on the headlight cans for my daughters. I say use it but I'm not a painter either.

The Matrix paints are compatible with all the PPG products and are less than 2/3's the cost. www.matrixsystem.com

There is not many colors that you can mix in dupont that you can't mix in nason. Mostly just tri-coats. For an overall job I would go with ful-thane or nason base clear. Just my opinion. That is what I'm going to paint my truck with. As for Chromapremier I have never mixed it nor had any ever ask for it. | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 180 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 180 | I have done 2 complete paint jobs with Nason base/clear they came out great and are holding up well. as said they are Dupont products. the only drawback is there is only one formula for each color, no alternates. so they are fine for a total repaint but are not good for repair work. I have found nason clear to be better than chroma clear at about half the price. I have pics of the jobs if you want them. good luck | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 | I've used the Nason base on two trucks but went with the DuPont clear. Figured the DuPont clear might give me an edge over the UV exposure we get on a daily basis. However, it was just a gut feeling about the clear....if the Nason clear "works" as well as the base coat, I think it would be a great product option at a more reasonable cost. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Dupont changed the formula and so they started putting the old formula in the nason cans. In fact they just released a new nason clear that is said to be better than an off brand should be. I can't remember the number right off hand but keep an eye out for it. As said before Chromabase is better for spot repairs because you can have up to 6 different alternates listed in colornet but they also have some hidden in there that are not listed. For an overall paint job nason is the way to go. I have sold chrombase for over $130 a quart versus $30 a quart for nason. | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 39 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 39 | Give these guys a try, they have some great prices and they ship! http://tcpglobal.com/
