For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,154 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,154 | HI...I'm out of my comfort zone so here goes...my 1954/3100 never had a radio I would like to have one and I don't need to have an original. Is there a radio out there that will fit the face cut out for a 54. All I need is just a radio nothing fancy BUT something that will look OEM. The new OEM ones I have seen are way to expensive for me (500.00) there must be a cheap alternative in the $150.00 range? I can machine a new face plate to fit the cut out if there is a radio that is close in size to the OEM model....somebody out there must have gone this way? It has apparently been converted to 12v. I have upped the bid to $100 myself, but I will not be bidding further. I have offered to restore the electronics free of charge, at the request of the winning bidder. I may be able to return it to 6v if that is desired. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | For those of you who might be interested in a 54/55 radio, that is truly a good deal. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,519 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,519 | Hi Steve,,If I remember correctly, your truck is now 12v? How abt. a low end am-fm,casette or c-d player mounted in the glove box and a couple speakers behind the seat, and maybe a couple smaller ones in the dash where the stock speaker would go? Ive seen it done numerous times,,always worked out well. Or.........mount something under the dash with a removable face plate. Use your Imagineering..........youll come up w/something. My uncle says to mount his old crank up record player(Gramaphone)under the seat....he says it would be a lot cheaper than an OEM radio....Thank God he can't find any needles for it.....T/C Steve | | |
