I'm dropping a 454 big block into my 1958 GMC Suburban Carryall. I noticed that Jim Carter sells accelerator linkage with a firewall bracket for use when putting in a V-8 where the six cylinder used to be. Carter says "necessary if removing the original 6 cylinder." Pardon my ignorance, but why is it "necessary"? You also have to buy a different accelerator pedal (1952-1957).

Does anybody have an explanation?

You need something, the six cylinder linkage has a bellcrank on the block that the accelerator pedal rod connects to. This would be smack dab in the middle of a cylinder in a V8. A cable linkage is going to be the easiest way around it.

Thanks. Now that I know what the "obvious"(to the more experienced) problem is, I'll work around it. I appreciate your knowledge and help.
