Ok folks,

I've set the timing on the 216 for the first time after installing a pertronix unit. It runs really good however the grease cup is almost touching the ignition advance unit therefore not allowing full movement as revs increase. Question is do I need to lift the dizzy and rotate it to move the cup away from the advance unit and then re-time? Like I said it runs really good as is. Thanks guys

That's what I would do.

Thanks Fred. When I pull the dizzy is it best to hold the shaft and rotate the top of the body so that the slot on the bottom is in the same position when I slip it back in?

Cheers

You should be able to rotate the distrbutor in 60 degree increments without affecting the timing. Then you don't have to worry about lifting it or messing up the oil pump index. Just move the spark plug wires to the next cap so the firing order stays correct. 6 cylinder engines fire every 60 degrees of rotation on the distributor.

Ok Josiah just to make sure that this has sunk in to the pea soup between my ears. I'll line up the marker with the ball on the flywheel, have number one cylinder at the top on compression, rotate the distributor about 60 degrees, move plug leads around one on the cap, octane selector to zero and re-time.

Josiah I had another look at my last post which was done at 5am local time. I think that I may be making something which should be quick and easy into something a lot more complicated than it is.

Ok second try. I rotate the dizzy about 60 degrees and move the leads on the cap then reset the timing. End of story.
