I think it will work well for my hopefully soon to be AD truck project. My question is how do you remove the existing spring perches without distorting the axle from too much heat? An at home basic solution would be best. Would a cutoff (reciprocating) saw work? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance. Wannabe

A recip saw will also work, then grind down the remains. You can also torch it, things won't get that hot. You will be welding on the new perches, which still won't be enough to warp the housing.

It won't take much time to get most of the weld out and then smack the perches with a 3 lb hammer and the remaining weld with crack and off they come. It is easy and it won't create much heat at all. | | |

Work on the welds and a lot of the perch will come off with a little prying and a good dead blow hammer. Don't work in the same spot too long if you are concerned about heat. I did this on 89 Camaro r/e and it worked fine. | | |

Looks like the PO won't be back for it, so maybe next week I'll cart it into work to tinker with between "payin' jobs." Bullfoot, the land of 'Shwa is a long, long way from Orygun. Do you really wanna come all this way for a diff that wouldn't handle the power of the DDRD diesel? :p This will be an easy quick project with all of everybody's tips to guide me. Oh yeah, my head's already rusted out...that's why I'd sooner invest $10 000 restomodifying a fifty year old AD Chevrolet truck than spend $20 000 on a stripped down brand new compact. Wannabe
