hello guys, getting real close to ordering a power brake, front disc set up for my 57, and want your input on the pros and cons on the differences, good and bad, on both the friewall and floor / frame mount setups.
i understand the floor mount is a direct bolt in, and im sure there is a little more work with the firewall mount type, but which is better, if any ?
thanks much for your input...also, any pics of firewall mounts on your trucks ?
leonard.

Leonard,
I have a firewall mounted booster and brake pedal from a donor Cadillac.
When I got the truck there was stress fractures all around the booster mount on the firewall tin (it was mounted to just the firewall tin) wich I had to plate and beef up to support the booster when pressure applied.
Also the pedal arm had to be modified (cut sectioned welded) to clear the steering column .
So I would say that the bolt on in the frame rail type would be preferable in my opinion if the budget allows.
But for $ sake fabin a junk yard power booster to the firewall is not that big of a challenge just a bit of time, fabrication and add some support to the firewall tin and it works.

Leonard,
yes my doors have the half nickle sized holes in the bottom of the doors for water to evacuate.
The tilt wheel came from a mid 70's donor Caddy at the salvage yard.

There were two reasons for my decision to mount on the frame: 1) I like the clean uncluttered look of the firewall and 2) I didn't want to hassle of fabing the swing petal.

I've got the floor version on my '54. You my want to think about mounting a remote fill master if you don't have enough space under the floor.

SW,
Ya, I did 12B when I was in the Army way back when. They got some cooler stuff now. Served in the Gulf War as a mechanic with an Engineer Unit.

I have a firewall mounted unit on mine. The booster is supported by a support brace that attaches to the dash to take the pressure off the firewall. Pirate Jack and a host of others sell them but I got mine off ebay for about $170.
