Hi- I'm trying to pull the harmonic balancer from my '54 235. The loaner puller I got from my FLAPS seems to not have the right bolt size--they all seem too small. Does anyone know what size bolt the stock balancer accepts? I figure I can pick one up at the hardware and hopefully it will fit with the rest of the puller tool. Thanks in advance.

I think they are 3/8," but I don't remember if they are coarse or fine thread. The bolts that came with the puller probably are for pulling steering wheels.

I seem to recall that they were 3/8-18, been a long time since I pulled one off a 235, though.

I got the right bolts... and I'm ashamed to say that the dirt and crud in the bolt holes made me think I had the wrong bolts. A little cleaning later, and the larger coarse bolts in the tool kit (not sure of exact size) seem to be holding fine. Ah well, live and learn. Now if I can just keep the pulley from moving when I tighten the puller tool....

Got the balancer off. Looks like the Speedi-Sleeve I bought will be needed. Check out the picture: Balancer grooves

Also, for fun, here is a night time shot of my engine bay as it currently sits. She's not the cleanest truck around, but she knows how to get around town: Engine bay

FWIW, I took the balancer off as part of my quest to stop those embarrassing oil leaks. I'm doing the front seal, timing cover, pan, pushrod cover, and rear main seals. It was leaking enough from just about everywhere to be annoying, plus it is a good excuse to get inside the engine a bit.
