OK... So even filling up the tank half full, I still manage to spill gas out of my tank. It's not like spilling out onto the pavement, just leaks down the side of the truck making a mess that I'd rather avoid having to clean once a week. I really do try and watch those hard right turns, but I'm thinking there's got to be something that I can do besides relocate the tank. Anyone got any tips? From what I can tell, the gas cap fits over the tank, but it's spongy. I'm guessing that this is because of the type of system to keep it from building up pressure?

certainly something amiss, that's not a factory-fresh condition!
the cap will be vented to prevent a vacuum, but it should have a good sealing ring [rubber or cork] that will keep gas from getting out - you might also have a baffle broke loose that allows more sloshing than usual on turns

You are working on the 67 chevy C10, with the fuel tank behind the seat?
If you are.
Look for a new factory cap. No aftermarket cap i ever found worked right.

Cork gaskets work better than the rubber ones. My guess would be you need to replace the gasket in your cap. As Bill noted it should be vented but they are designed to avoid leaking from sloshing gas.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

I'll admit it when I'm a newbie. I guess I should have inspected the gas cap. CRACKED RUBBER. Replaced the cap with a rubber one from a local auto store, fits nice n snug. I'm sure the cracked rubber on the cap's seal is the culprit We'll it works when I go for a real spin this evening. I do need to clean up all that residue from it spilling :p LAME!
