I disassembled the head and found that the valve seats and ports were rusted from sitting in the weather for the last 20 years. Would it be cheaper to clean it up and remill the valve seats myself since I have access to a milling machine or to just go and buy a new one? Also, is it possible to put small-block chevy roller rockers and roller lifters in this thing or are there companies that make performance parts specifically for inline sixes? Thanks, Drew

#38142 12/02/2005 4:46 AM | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 75 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 75 | small block roller rocker and rolloer lifter will not work. the six rocker are on there on with 1.75 ratio regluar small block lifter will work. there is a few companys that make roller cam for six but they are hard to find not much call for them. do a web search and look for cam company online catlogs to see if you can find the roller cams. big block roller rocker will not work also. tried this one my self and they just dont fit. harland sharp does make roller rockers arms for inline sixes. and they are made in the USA.

You'll probably want to consider hardened exhaust seats, because of the unleaded gas. You may want to do a little reading about this engine and this book by Leo Santucci has some good info. They're the BB chevy rockers, so the ratio is more like 1.7 rather than 1.75...but my cam is a bit lumpy, so the smaller ratio will smooth it out a bit. | | |

They will hot tank it & grind the valves & seats. Like Richard says you will want to get hardned seats. You could get a 71 up head or a 292. They have hardened seats.

They work under a 235 cover(with adapter) or a Clifford with some clearancing and two gaskets. Crower also makes roller lifters for Chev inlines.
Two places that are inline specific are Stovebolt Engine Company and Clifford Performance. | | |
