It all depends on what motor you have,if its a 261 you might be able to install the part from a V8 to go to a spin on and have longer hose made to relocate but if its a 216 or 235 you are stuck with the canister as its a bypass system not a full flow as is the 261 and V8s. If you have a V8 all you need is the parts from a 68 or so and up to convert to a spin on and there is companies that make relocating kits for popular V8s. Jeff

Was the V6s made into the late sixties or early seventies? If so you might want to look at one and see if they have a part that makes them accept a spin on like a chevy V8. The chevy V8s went to a spin on around 68,the GMC V6s might have too. Jeff

Thanks Jeff,
I'll hit the you pull it, and see. I know they made them for the mid size (2 1/2 ton or so) up to 74.
Thanks again

I think both Summit and Jeg's carry universal spin-on oil filter kits. You might want to try their websites. If I remember correctly, there are links to both pages on the "links" page here.

Just a thought, but do you change the rubber gasket each time you change the filter? Prior to changing to spin on adapter I used to change the gasket every other time but never had leakage problems. Might the top of your cannister be bent or warped? Or is the leak at the bottom?

Make sure you removed the old gasket when you installed the new one. If you got more than one gasket, it'll leak for sure.

yeah, I remove the gasket, and clean the surface. I guess it's possible that the darn thing is warped, but I really don't think so. As far as jegs and summit, they have em for v-8s all day long but not (listed anyway) for the v-6. I guess I'll call and see.

Thanks for all the thought guys. I'll keep ya posted.
